Personal Reflection

This first semester back in school was very challenging for me. I was out of school for a long time. I learned to balance my family needs and school work in order to be successful this semester. I remember the first day in my English class. I felt really unsure of what to expect because of what I lived as a child. My childhood fears were coming back from my elementary days. I seriously wanted to run out of the classroom and hide. Then I realized, I just need to let my past be, open my mind to what ever comes my way, continue educating myself, and stay focused in school. I was very thankful I stayed because I knew this was just the beginning to a wonderful future. I know I will eventually get through this and there are always going to be bumps on the road. However, I know in my heart I can reach any goal I set my mind to.
I am a person who tends to over think things and always want to provide the best quality work. For example I was originally going to write more about Colorado and different genres. However, I was not able to focus on the locations as much as I hoped for because of my school load and family. Even though I received passing grades on my blogs and my intro essay, I went back and updated the typos that I had missed because I wanted to make sure I learned as much as possible.
My professor gave out a few assignments and I put a lot of thought into each of them and made sure I understood to the fullest of my knowledge. Ultimately, the one assignment that is going to stay with me the most, and is going to be very useful in my other classes, is the assignment in chapter 1 when we read about mode, media, genres, ethos, pathos and logos. I feel this was a fundamental assignment for me and it will help me to become a more educated writer. Learning these elements and understanding their role in writing is going help in reading and writing in a more complex way. Now ever, time I read or look at an ad, I look for the ethos, pathos and the logos.
